With letters and diaries from former comrades-in-arms, Edwin Hobart wrote this engaging history of the regiments in which he served, including the 58th U.S. Colored Infantry. He was indeed a boy soldier when he joined (at 16) in 1861 and by the time he joined the 58th as a lieutenant, he was only twenty years old.
