Though a respected general officer who performed well early in the American Civil War, Fitz John Porter was court-martialed and cashiered from the army in 1862 after his actions at the Second Battle of Bull Run. General Jacob Cox was a member of Porter’s court-martial, as was General (later President) James Garfield. Included is the testimony of some of the Confederate participants in the battle. It all makes for a fascinating look at some of the important players in the Civil War in a controversial action.
